What is different about upgrading to Umbraco 17?
The upgrade from version 13 to version 17 is more involved than previous upgrades, and it is important to understand why before you plan your project.
From version 14 onwards, Umbraco rebuilt its back office from the ground up. The older framework was retired and replaced with a modern architecture and a new Extension API. This is a significant change that affects any website with custom back office functionality.
This means if your site has custom back office functionality, part of your upgrade will involve new development work rather than a straight migration. Ozum identifies all of this during the free upgrade review, so your quote reflects the full picture before you commit.
